The police in Lagos on Friday arraigned two unemployed men, Kelechi Eze and Lukumo Yusuf, before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing generators valued at N500 million.

The defendants, Eze, 31, and Yusuf, 48, whose addresses were not provided, are being tried for burglary and stealing.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP Adegoke Ademigbuji, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Oct. 11 and Oct. 14 in the Oreyo area of Ikorodu, Lagos.

According to him, the defendants stole three Lister generators and two other generators, all valued at N500 million.

He said the generators were stolen from various houses in the community, belonging to Ganiu Abib, Kolejo Alamulako, and Olabisi Ateni.

Mr Ademigbuji added that the defendants were arrested at night by a vigilance group.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 287, 307 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, O. A. Odubayo, granted the defendants bail of N2 million each with two sureties each in like sum.

Mrs Odubayo adjourned the case until December 18 for mention.
