Two judicial officials sanctioned, over 500 promoted in Taraba

The Taraba State Judiciary Commission, under the leadership of Joel Agya, the chief judge, approved the promotion of 535 Judiciary officers, confirmed acting appointments, and demoted two of its officers.
A statement by the commission on Sunday noted that the TSJC’s decision was ratified at its 125th meeting, held in Jalingo.
The statement said that the commission considered the report of its subcommittee on promotion and approved the promotion of the staff based on merit.
The statement listed those affected by the confirmation of appointments, including James Machoko, whose appointment as a substantive chief registrar of the Taraba State High Court with effect from June 15, 2025, was confirmed.
The statement also listed Useni Galadima as the substantive deputy registrar of the high court, and Victoria Barnabas as the director of area courts. Others are Abdullahi Loto, as director of litigation, high court, and Nadunya Gamiya, as director of audit.
According to the statement, Mahmoud Lamu was named the acting director of personnel management. Christian Jonah was confirmed as the chief registrar of the Customary Court of Appeal, Absalom Peter as deputy chief registrar, and Samuel Inusa as director of litigation of the customary court, while Peter Inus as director of personnel management of the Customary Court of Appeal.
The commission also confirmed the appointment of Ishaq Umar as director of litigation of the Customary Court of Appeal, and Mohammed Isa as acting director of administration of the Customary Court of Appeal.
Regarding the disciplinary action, the commission demoted Assauten Abasson from the rank of senior magistrate II on GL.13 to the rank of senior registrar on GL.10, with effect from December 19, 2025.
According to the report, the officer was recalled to the high court headquarters in Jalingo for two years.
It also demoted William Jakwanti from the rank of registrar I on Gl. 09 to the rank of assistant registrar on Gl 07.
The commission directed that the officer be recalled to the headquarters in Jalingo, and he was asked to refund N40,000.
