Two men arraigned over alleged theft of food items worth N72,182

The prosecutor said that the defendants stole food items valued at N72,180 belonging to NAO Supermarket.

Two men, Moses James and Isah Kabiru, were on Wednesday arraigned at an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing food items worth N72,182.

The defendants – James, 35, and Kabiru, 20, of unknown addresses – are facing a count charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on August 31, at 7.30 p.m. at NAO Supermarket in Ado-Ekiti.

He said that the defendants stole food items valued at N72,180 which belonged to NAO Supermarket.

Mr Oriyomi said that the offence contravened Section 302(1) (A) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them by the police.

The prosecutor urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.

Counsel to the defendants, Mayowa Olawoye and Tolulope Bewaji, urged the court to grant  the defendants bail.

They stated that the defendants would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N50,000 each with one surety each in like sum.

He adjourned the case until October 22 for hearing.
