Two men in court over alleged possession of cannabis

Two men, Harrison Otta, 39, and Ojo Salami, 30, were on Friday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged possession of cannabis.
The defendants, of unknown addresses, are facing a one-count charge of possession of cannabis sativa.
They, however, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on August 5 at about 5:00 p.m. in Isinbode-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendants had in their possession weeds suspected to be cannabis.
Mr Oriyomi said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 5(b) of the Indian Hemp Act LFN, 2004.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
The counsel to the defendants, Adunni Olanipekun, urged the court to grant the defendants bail, promising they would not jump bail.
The chief magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N100,000 each, with one surety each in like sum.
He adjourned the case until September 14 for hearing.
