Two men plead guilty to illicit drug peddling in Ibadan

Two suspected drug peddlers, Lekan Raji (M) and Iyabo Mutiu (F) on Wednesday pleaded guilty before a Federal High Court, Ibadan Division, to peddling a total of 12kg of cannabis sativa.
Messrs Raji and Mutiu pleaded guilty to the three-count charge of conspiracy, possession and dealing in Narcotic brought against them by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Command in Oyo State.
Consequently, Justice Uche Agomoh ordered the defendants to be remanded in Agodi correctional facility.
He adjourned the suit until April 28, for reveal of facts.
Earlier, the prosecutor, D.O. Otunla, told the court that the duo committed the crime on February 14, at Oriyangi-Idiosan, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Mr Otunla said that the NDLEA operatives arrested Messrs Raji and Mutiu after receiving intelligence reports from informants that the defendants were into the illicit business of drug peddling.
According to him, the NDLEA operatives caught the duo conspiring to deal in 6.107kg of cannabis sativa.
He said that Raji was separately caught dealing in 2.10kg of cannabis while Mutiu was separately caught being in possession of four kg of the illicit substance.
Mr Otunla noted that the offences contravene the provision of Sections 11(C) of the NDLEA Act Cap n30 Law of the Federation, 2004.
