Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, have advanced to the third round of the 2024 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers after defeating the Central African Republic (CAR) 6-0 on Thursday.

Having previously defeated CAR with the same scoreline in the first leg of the qualifiers in Douala, Cameroon last week, the Nigerian team had already secured one foot in the next round of qualification.

On Monday, the Flamingos replicated their success at the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, securing their advancement to the next round thanks to a hat-trick by Chidi Harmony, who scored in the 2nd, 14th, and 90th minute. 

Kareem Ramota contributed a brace, scoring in the 55th and 85th minutes, while Ojiyovwi Kesiena added one in the 36th minute to seal a 12-0 aggregate victory for Nigeria over the Central African Republic.

Next, Nigeria will face Burkina Faso, who secured a 6-2 aggregate win over Guinea, in the fourth round of qualifiers. 

The winner of this two-legged tie will then face the winner between Senegal and Liberia in the fourth round for one of the three Africa spots for the tournament.

The Flamingos finished third in the 2022 edition of the tournament held in India and are aiming to improve their performance in the upcoming tournament in the Dominican Republic later this year if they advance through the qualification rounds.
