A United States of America-based Nigerian Nurse Olufemi Olaifa has been arraigned in court after he was charged with one felony count of sexually assaulting a woman at a rehabilitation centre.

The Peoples Gazette learnt that the incident occurred in February this year when police officers were called to the Alden Estates of Barrington in Illinois regarding a report of sexual assault involving a 30-year-old woman at the facility.

In a statement released last week, the Barrington Police Department (BPD) said that the victim who was not officially identified reported that she had been sexually abused by Mr Olaifa, working as a nurse at the rehabilitation facility.

As part of their investigation, the police immediately collected samples from the victim for DNA analysis, which the BPD said the results matched the DNA of the 40-year-old suspect.

“On February 22, 2026, officers from the Barrington Police Department responded to Alden Estates of Barrington, located at 1420 S. Barrington Rd., for a report of a sexual assault involving a resident of the facility,” the BPD stated.

The department added, “The investigation revealed that a 30-year-old female resident reported being sexually assaulted by a male nurse employed at the facility.

“Detectives immediately initiated an investigation, which included DNA evidence that was collected from the victim and submitted for forensic analysis. The results confirmed a DNA match to the suspect.”

Additionally, the police department noted that Mr Olaifa was subsequently charged with felony criminal sexual assault following review by state authorities. He was scheduled to make his first appearance in court on June 17.

“Following a review of the investigation, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved one count of Criminal Sexual Assault (Class 1 Felony) against Olufemi I. Olaifa, 40, from the 1300 block of Valley Lake Drive in Schaumburg, Illinois.

“The defendant is scheduled to appear for a detention hearing at the Rolling Meadows Courthouse on June 17, 2026. Alden Estates of Barrington fully cooperated in the investigation,” the BPD said.

Updates on the hearing have yet to be released as of the time this report was filed.
