At least two children were killed and 17 others injured at Annunciation Catholic School, Minneapolis, Minnesota, in a shooting the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) described as “domestic terrorism.”

The police confirmed the incident on Wednesday, adding that two children were killed and 17 others injured during the Mass to mark the first week of class.

Kash Patel, FBI boss, in a post on X, said the shooter has been identified as “Robin Westman,” adding, “The FBI is investigating this shooting as an act of domestic terrorism and hate crime targeting Catholics.”

Mr Patel said, “There were 2 fatalities, an 8-year-old and a 10-year-old. In addition, 14 children and 3 adults were injured.”

In a post on Truth Social, American President Donald Trump said, “I have been fully briefed on the tragic shooting in Minneapolis, Minnesota.”

He added, “The FBI quickly responded and they are on the scene. The White House will continue to monitor this terrible situation. Please join me in praying for everyone involved!”

Former American Presidents, Barack Obama and Joe Biden, have condemned the shooting, while sending out condolence messages to the parents of students killed in the attack.

“We can’t allow ourselves to become numb to mass shootings. What happened today in Minneapolis is heart-breaking, and Michelle and I are praying for the parents who have lost a child or will be sitting at their hospital bedside after yet another act of unspeakable, unnecessary violence,” Mr Obama said in a post on X.

Mr Biden, in a post on X, also said, “No parent should ever have to bury their child. Jill and I are heartbroken and there are simply no words to adequately mark such a horrific and painful moment. With all our hearts, we are praying for the victims, their families, and the community of Minneapolis.”
