U.S. closes Abuja Embassy, Lagos Consulate Monday to mark Presidents’ Day
The U.S. Embassy in Abuja, and the Lagos Consulate will be closed on Monday, February 16, 2026.
In a statement on Sunday, on the embassy’s official X page, it said the closure is in observance of the day the U.S. Presidents’ Day.
It stated, “The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Monday, February 16, 2026, in observance of Presidents’ Day.
“Originally established to honor George Washington’s birthday, Presidents’ Day now celebrates all U.S. presidents and their leadership in shaping the nation’s history and positively influencing the world.”
The federal holiday is observed on the third Monday of February every year.
On the day, government agencies, federal workers and public educational institutions take time off from work to honour the country’s past leaders.
