U.S. congratulates Nigeria on 62nd independence anniversary

The United States government has felicitated with Nigeria on her 62nd independence anniversary, reiterating its commitment to help the nation combat terrorism and other forms of insecurity.
A statement by the U.S. secretary of state, Antony Blinken, released on October 1, conveyed the foreign nation’s goodwill.
“On behalf of the United States of America, I extend best wishes to the people of
Nigeria on the 62nd anniversary of their independence,” reads Mr Blinken’s statement.
“The partnership between our two countries is strong and is built on our shared values
of democracy, diversity, and a spirit of entrepreneurship,” asserted Mr Blinken.
He added that, “The United States is committed to supporting Nigerian efforts to counter terrorism and insecurity, improve health systems, strengthen democratic institutions, promote respect for human rights, and bolster economic growth including through bilateral trade and investment between the United States and Nigeria.”
With an election year in view, the American government declared its support to help the nation achieve “free and fair elections and value Nigeria’s leadership on global and regional issues including the fight to end the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Mr Blinken asserted further that the U.S. government looked “forward to expanding our relationship over the coming year and advancing our mutual interests.”
