The U.S. Consulate has launched an innovative engagement space at the National Museum in Lagos to promote cultural preservation and learning in Nigeria.

The engagement space was launched by the acting Consul General James Suor, according to a statement made available to Peoples Gazette on Tuesday.

At the launch, Mr Suor described the space as a modern educational space that will support learning in an engaging environment for students.

“This modern educational space will stimulate curiosity in the minds of children, support learning, facilitate reflection and promote common ideals between the United States and Nigeria,” he said.

Speaking further, Mr Suor explained that the space will “promote shared values of democracy and encourage robust people-to-people ties.”

He noted that U.S. government-funded programs have been very beneficial to the people of Nigeria, increasing intellectual and cross-cultural capital and serving as catalysts for professional alumni networks that help address global concerns.

On his part, Aina Ayoola, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development, praised the U.S. government for providing Nigerians the opportunities to explore their environment as part of a holistic educational experience.

Director-General of the National Commission for Museums and Monuments, Abba Tijani described the space as a world-class facility that’ll allow Nigerians engage and learn.

“This space is a world-class space and will provide people the opportunity to engage and learn, and also visit the newly renovated permanent exhibition at the national museum where we keep the cultural artefacts for posterity,” Mr Tijanu said.
