The U.S. House Appropriations Committee, on Wednesday, said its delegation visited Nigeria on a fact-finding mission that would inform its report on alleged Christian persecution in the country and recommendations to President Donald Trump.

In a statement on Wednesday, the U.S. Appropriations Committee shared an X post by Riley Moore, one of its lawmakers who visited Nigeria over the weekend, lamenting that over 600,000 people had been displaced by what he described as genocidal Fulani terrorists in Benue State.

“America will not look away as innocent lives are stolen. Directed by @POTUS, Appropriators led an on-the-ground mission to inform a report on Christian persecution in Nigeria and guide policy recommendations,” the House Appropriations Committee said.

It added, “Religious freedom and atrocity response are central to our NSRP bill.”

However, President Bola Tinubu’s government has repeatedly denied allegations of Christian persecution and genocide in Nigeria.

Over the weekend, a U.S. Congress delegation visited Nigeria on a fact-finding mission over the alleged Christian genocide in the country.

On Monday, after the U.S. delegation visited Nigeria, Mr Moore said their visit was focused on strategies to destroy terrorists and stop the killing of Christians in Nigeria.

Mr Moore, who visited Benue State alongside other delegation members, said he met with victims of “genocidal Fulani” militias during the visit, lamenting that over 600,000 people were living in an IDP camp in Benue.
