The U.S. Department of Education on Thursday deleted a post on X that seemed to draw parallels between President Donald Trump and deceased German dictator Adolf Hitler.

The department posted a mash-up video that included a scene from “Darkest Hour”, a 2017 film depicting the life of former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

In the footage, Gary Oldman, who acted the role of the British leader, yelled, “You cannot reason with a tiger when your head is in its mouth.”

The video, which ended with other short clips of Mr Trump, was captioned “No one does it like us”, alongside a tiger emoji.

In the movie scene, Mr Churchill referred to Adolf Hitler as a “tiger” after his advisers suggested striking a deal with the Nazis.

X users quickly called attention to the post, questioning whether the education department knew the post was comparing Mr Trump to Mr Hitler.

“The ‘tiger’ being referenced here is Hitler, btw,” Fox News cited Matt Rein, a Democratic National Committee official, as having written.

After a deluge of reactions, X added a Community Note to the post, providing context that the “tiger” reference was to Mr Hitler and linking to a longer version of the film clip.

The Department of Education deleted the post shortly afterwards.
