U.S. to deploy additional 2,500 troops to Poland

Poland says the United States would deploy an additional 2,500 troops to the country as part of moving soldiers to Eastern Europe.
Pawel Soloch, the head of the Polish National Security Bureau, said on Wednesday the country relied on American soldiers.
“The U.S. has already declared the other day the transfer of more than 8,000-8,500 soldiers for all of Eastern Europe,” Mr Soloch told Polskie Radio. “It looks like we will have about 2,500 additional soldiers.”
Some 5,500 U.S. soldiers are currently stationed in Poland.
The U.S. and European NATO countries were working out the deployment of large American contingents to Eastern Europe, Mr Soloch noted.
“I want to remind you that there are two plans. The first one is the physical presence of American soldiers, especially in Poland,” he further disclosed. “The second one is the introduction of a mechanism, the creation of opportunities for the deployment of a significant number of troops if it becomes necessary. The work on this issue is in progress.”
On Friday, U.S. President Joe Biden said he would soon order the deployment of a small American contingent of 8,500 soldiers to Eastern Europe.
