Uba Sani to engage Kaduna traditional rulers in fighting banditry

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the people by engaging traditional institutions in policy-making and implementation.
The governor spoke when he received a delegation of the state traditional council, led by its chairman, Ahmad Bamalli, the Emir of Zazzau, on a courtesy visit.
“To effectively tackle the menace of criminal elements, we must put in place effective intelligence gathering mechanisms,” Mr Sani said.
He added, “The traditional institutions have a critical role to play in putting together a framework for intelligence gathering and interface with security agencies at the grassroots.”
Mr Sani said the government would effectively engage the traditional institutions and involve it in policy-making and implementation.
According to him, one of the key plans of his administration’s seven-point agenda is nurturing citizens’ engagement.
“We will ensure inclusion of the people in the policy-making and implementation process,” the governor said. “We must also mobilise our people to avail themselves of the opportunities in education, health and commerce.”
According to him, the traditional institutions are better placed to engage and mobilise the people for all round developments.
Mr Sani also pledged to focus on developing rural areas for accelerated development.
The governor solicited their support and prayers for the success of the administration.
Earlier, Mr Bamalli said the visit was to congratulate the governor on his inauguration and restate their support for the government.
“We are expecting so much from you because you are coming at a time when the Nigerian economy is not very buoyant,” he said.
He said that as strategic partners, they will do their best to ensure the government’s success.
