UCH IVF centre makes strides in fertility treatment

The University College Hospital Ibadan in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) Centre says the centre has recorded significant strides in fertility treatment.
This is contained in a statement by the UCH IVF coordinator, Adesina Oladokun, issued on Tuesday in Ibadan.
Mr Oladokun said the centre had conducted approximately 148 IVF cycles and 10 intrauterine insemination (IUI) treatments, achieving a very good per cent success rate since its inception.
“This year alone, the centre has recorded a 38 per cent success rate. Patients at the UCH IVF Centre undergo a thorough evaluation and investigation process to determine the best treatment options. Many of these patients have previously attempted similar procedures at other facilities before coming to UCH.
“Age is a key factor influencing the success rate of fertility treatments, and the centre strives to help patients achieve their goal of conception,” he said.
Mr Oladokun said that in IVF, fertilisation occurs outside the body, and the resulting embryo would be transferred into the endometrial cavity of the uterus.
According to him, IVF costs vary for each individual, depending on the specific type of treatment required.
“The UCH IVF Centre is located on the south campus of the hospital and operates from Monday to Friday. However, work often continues on other days, especially when procedures are ongoing,” Mr Oladokun said.
