UCL: Demba Ba inspires Turkish side to 2-1 win against Man United
A first half goal and an dummy assist was all it took former Chelsea star, Demba Ba to help his Turkish side, Istanbul Basaksehir to an unlikely win against Manchester United in a UEFA Champions League match on Wednesday night.
Basaksehir started the match lively, stifling United’s attack and hoping to catch the English top side on a counter.
The tactic paid off in the 13th minute as Ba latched on to a clearance from Basaksehir’s box to score the opener after being left to a world of his own by goal-chasing United defenders.
The 35-year old becomes the oldest African player to score a Champions League goal, behind Didier Drogba, who was 36 years and 259 days old when he scored his final goal in November 2014, according to Opta Joe.
Manchester United’s 100 per cent record in this season’s Champions League is now gone after the 2-1 away loss.
Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s boys went into the game off the back of a disappointing 1-0 loss to Arsenal on Sunday.
Tonight’s drab performance in the Turkish capital packs more pressure on their under-fire manager.
