Big European football nights as new manager Sean Dyche leads Nottingham Forest to their first victory after several games, while Unai Emery’s men fail to beat Go Ahead Eagles, continuing their inconsistent run.

Dyche began his managerial career at The City Ground with a brilliant victory against visitors FC Porto.

The tough clash between the English and Portuguese sides saw Forest win through two spot kicks, the first coming from a handball incident involving Porto defender Bednarek.

The difference was sealed when young striker Igor Jesus doubled the lead to secure the win for Forest, marking his first home goal for the club.

The victory was an important one for home fans, who applauded the team’s effort. The win moves them up to 17th position in the league phase as they prepare to face Bournemouth over the weekend.

Aston Villa, on the other hand, suffered a 2-1 defeat to Go Ahead Eagles despite taking an early lead, piling pressure on Unai Emery.

The visitors opened the scoring through a deflected cross that fell kindly for Evan Guessand. Moments later, Villa pushed hard to extend their advantage but failed to convert their chances.

Just before the interval, the home side equalised through Mathis Suray, before Mats Deijl added a brilliant second with a wonderful diagonal pass from Joris Kramer.

Villa had a golden opportunity to level the score, but Buendía missed a penalty as his effort went over the crossbar.

Elsewhere in the Europa League, Roma lost 2-1 to Viktoria Plzeň, Lille fell 4-3 to PAOK Thessaloniki, Lyon kept a clean sheet against Basel, and Turkish side Fenerbahçe edged VfB Stuttgart with a single goal.
