Famous Ugandan juvenile dance group, Ghetto Kids, electrified the atmosphere at 16th season of Britian Got Talent show 2023 with a stunning performance on Saturday night.

They wowed judges and the audience with their energetic and well choreographed dancing.

Aside from their performance, Ghetto Kids’s story was an emotional one that endeared them to the audience on the night. 

Introducing the group, one of the kids, who was picked up from the streets of Uganda, said, “Ghetto Kids is like an orphanage in Uganda. We are 30 Kids living in one house.  

“We are one big family. Before, I was living on the streets of Kampala. Being part of the Ghetto Kids has given me a lot of opportunities.” 

Just six of the kids, four boys and two girls, danced so well leaving the audience savouring their beautiful performance. The youngest among them, five-year old Josephine got personal recognition from the judges.

All the judges; Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, and Bruno Tonioli, had glowing commendations for the kids as they danced out their hearts, lighting up the show.

The golden buzzer is usually pressed after an audition upon agreement by judges, signifying automatic qualification for the performer into live semi-finals. 

But Ghetto Kids broke the record as first group to earn it midway into their performance as Mr Tonioli out of excitement pressed the golden buzzer leaving the audience erupt in jubilation.

Earning the highly coveted golden buzzer, midway into their performance, was a historic feat and a good reward for their brilliant performance. 

Stunned by the display of the kids, Mr Cowell, one of the judges and creator of Got Talent franchises, applauded the team. 

“This is an audition we are going to remember. And it was brilliant. That’s what the show is all about. That’s what the golden buzzer is all about,” Mr Cowell said.

“Normally, the golden buzzer is pressed afterwards. He gave you the Golden Buzzer and you performed with confetti. It was magical.” 

Speaking before the kids’ performance, Kavuma Dauda, founder and manager of the dance group, spoke on what inspired the group.

“I have 30 kids that I am taking care of. Some are orphans. We are using music, dance and drama to make lives better,” Mr Dauda said.
