UK-based Chukwuemeka Michael Ahanonu bags life sentence for murder

A UK-based Nigerian, Chukwuemeka Michael Ahanonu, has been found guilty and sentenced to life in prison for murdering a woman whom he randomly attacked on a Leicester street.
Mr Ahanonu, 24, violently attacked 56-year-old Nila Patel during the late afternoon of Tuesday, June 24, last year, on Infirmary Road, Leicester, after crashing his car while under the influence of cannabis.
Though Ms Patel was rushed to the hospital after Mr Ahanonu attacked her, she died two days later.
Following his trial at Leicester Crown Court, Mr Ahanonu was found guilty by a jury of the murder of Ms Patel and was handed a life sentence on Tuesday, a statement by Leicestershire Police said.
Mr Ahanonu will serve a minimum term of 21 years and six months of his life sentence.
During his trial, Mr Ahanonu pled guilty to dangerous driving, possession with intent to supply Class B drugs – dealer bags of cannabis worth more than £3,000 seized from him. He also assaulted an emergency worker, biting a female police officer following his arrest.
