A Ukrainian drone strike hit the warehouse of Russia’s largest online retail outlet, Wildberries, popularly called Russia’s Amazon, amid lingering hostilities between the two countries.

The company on Monday confirmed the drone strike set its warehouse in the Vladimir region, about 180km east of Moscow, on fire, but its staff were evacuated from the facility.

Footage of thick smoke billowing into the sky from the blazing warehouse emerged online in the early hours of Monday.

Alexander Avdeyev, the regional governor of Vladimir, confirmed the incident, adding that over 200 firefighters have been deployed to tackle the fire outbreak caused by the drone strike.

This comes as another attack on a Wildberries warehouse. Last month, Ukrainian forces launched attacks on a Wildberries warehouse in response to Russia’s earlier attack on its civilian infrastructure.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in a post on X last month,  said Ukraine’s attack on Russia’s largest retail outlet is a “response to Russian strikes on our civilian infrastructure and on our cities and communities; two major logistics facilities were hit – in the Moscow and Tambov regions, more than 500 and nearly 700 kilometres from the front line.”
