Denys Monastyrsky, Ukraine’s internal affairs minister, has died alongside 17 others, including three children, in Kyiv suburbs in a helicopter crash.

The national police service made the announcement.

According to first responders, the crash occurred at 8:20 a.m., damaging a kindergarten and a 14-storey residential building.

Although the cause of the helicopter crash was not immediately known, there was no initial evidence that the plane had been shot down.

Images shared from the site showed a long fire trail that might have been caused by petrol spilling and smoke rising above a residential neighbourhood in the suburb of Brovary.

According to statements by Ukrainian officials, 18 people, including three children, were confirmed killed as of Wednesday morning.

Twenty-two people wounded by the crash, including 10 kids, are receiving treatment at a hospital.
