Umahi exempts UBEB, civil service commission from dissolved boards, commissions

Governor David Umahi has exempted the Ebonyi Civil Service Commission and Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) from the recently dissolved boards and commissions in the state.
As approved by the governor, the exemption is contained in a statement issued to journalists in Abakaliki on Tuesday by Kenneth Igwe, secretary to the state government and coordinating commissioner.
“Consequently, members of (the) Civil Service Commission and Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) are hereby directed to resume work with immediate effect,” the statement said.
On Monday, Mr Umahi ordered the immediate dissolution of the state’s boards, commissions, and development centres’ coordinators.
“The development centre coordinators are to hand over all government property in their possession, including official vehicles, to the office of the SSG,” the statement said. “This should be on or before the close of work on Tuesday, March 21, 2023.”
The Ebonyi government ordered the boards and commissions to hand over “government property in their possession to their parent ministries on the same time and date,” indicating it would constitute a transition committee to advise whether to reconstitute the boards, commissions and development centres’ coordinators.
“The committee shall also advise whether such should be left for the incoming administration. The government has noted members of boards, commissions and development centre coordinators who served very well in their various offices,” the government said on Monday. “Such persons would be accommodated during the reconstitution.”
