The United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) has trained 50 private health providers on family planning in Zamfara.

The training was organised in collaboration with Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria (PPFN) and Marie Stopes International Organisation of Nigeria (MISON).

The five-day training is geared towards updating the knowledge of private health providers on the latest development in the area of family planning services.

Addressing the participants, the Training Officer of MISON,

Hadiza Sani, expressed concern how problems regarding family planning services became rampant in the private healthcare facilities due to lack of effective manpower.

“People sometimes prefer to patronise private health facilities for less congestion, while some communities only have access to private hospitals.

“We, therefore, see it very necessary to train and retrain the private health providers to achieve better family planning services in the state.”

Ms Sani observed that by doing so, healthcare services would be spread and be more accessible, “because citizens from everywhere will get the desired family planning services.”

Also speaking, Hadiza Yahayya of PPFN, said the motive behind the training was to ensure quality service delivery of all health providers in the state.

She said before now, training and retraining were concentrated at the public healthcare centres, leaving the private centres unattended to.

According to her, to achieve a uniform healthcare service across the state, private health providers must equally be trained to meet the global changes in the health sector.

She, therefore, called on the participants to make good use of the knowledge acquired during the five-day workshop towards improved service delivery.

Abdulkadir Tsafe, a participant, identified the procedure of managing complications after the administration of any chosen method as one of the ambiguous areas that required explanation.
