UNICEF, Niger ministry introduce corps members to Nigeria learning passport platform

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and Niger Ministry for Basic and Secondary Education have introduced corps members to the Nigeria Learning Passport (NLP) platform.
Farouk Mashegu, UNICEF focal person in the ministry, said this at a sensitization programme organised for corps members at the NYSC orientation camp in Paiko on Saturday.
He said that the sensitisation was to introduce corps members to NLP to become conversant with the contents on the platform, especially those that would be posted to schools for their primary assignment.
“What we want to achieve is to catch them before they are deployed to schools so by the time they get to school, they will be already embedded with NLP.
“The platform will be guides on how to go about teaching students both online and offline so that pupils will not miss out of learning.
“We believe that extending network down to NYSC, we will have substantial number of users on board going forward,” he said.
The official disclosed that UNICEF, in collaboration with the ministry, was currently training 2,500 teachers, adding that 3,150 head teachers had already been trained on utilisation of NPL platform.
According to Mr Mashegu, no fewer than 15,620 people are currently using NPL in Niger State, adding that the platform helps students take lessons online and offline.
He said that the platform aids learning from home and not just within the classroom, as well as being flexible, allowing everyone to be on board for continuous learning.
The Federal Ministry of Education, in partnership with UNICEF, launched NLP as an online and offline learning platform to provide continuous access to quality education to learners.
