UNILAG shuts down data centre as fire blazes through facility
The management of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has temporarily shut down one of its data centres following an early morning fire incident at the facility.
A statement on Monday by the institution’s communication unit said the temporary shutdown allows for safety assessments, technical inspections, repairs and other remedial works.
“The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has temporarily shut down one of its data centres following an early-morning fire incident at the facility on Monday, August 10, 2026,” the school said.
“The temporary shutdown is to allow for the necessary safety assessments, technical inspections, repairs, and other remedial works,” it stated.
The institution said internet connectivity and some other e-services would be unavailable until the affected infrastructure has been properly assessed and it is safe to restore the suspended services.
“The university is working with the relevant technical teams to expedite the necessary interventions and restore services as soon as possible. Further updates will be provided as the restoration process progresses,” the school said.
It urged members of the university community to bear with it during the period and await further updates through the school’s official channels.
“The university sincerely regrets the inconvenience caused by this disruption and appreciates the patience, understanding, and cooperation of all members of the University community,” it added.
