UNIPORT promotes 30 lecturers to rank of professor

The University of Port Harcourt has promoted 17 readers to the rank of professor and 13 senior lecturers to the rank of reader (associate professor), the spokesman, Sam Kpenu, has said.
Mr Kpenu said in a statement on Sunday that the newly promoted lecturers passed through stringent selection criteria set by the university.
“The elevation reflects their outstanding contributions to teaching, research, and community service. No fewer than 17 staff members from various disciplines were promoted to professors and 13 others as readers,” the statement said.
A breakdown of the promotion showed that five persons were promoted to the rank of professor in the Faculty of Science and three from the College of Health Sciences.
Three lecturers were promoted in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and two from the Faculty of Agriculture.
The breakdown further showed that the faculties of humanities, social sciences, education, and engineering each got one promotion.
In the readers’ category, the Faculty of Education had five promotions, the Faculty of Science had three, and the Faculty of Engineering had two.
Further breakdown showed that the faculties of health sciences, agriculture, and social sciences each received one new reader.
