Retired eight-time Olympic sprinting champion and the fastest man in history in the 100m and 200m, Usain Bolt, has registered to play for a veterans’ Sunday league football team in Manchester.

According to the Football Association’s website, the 40-year-old Manchester United fan registered as a player for Wythenshawe Vets FC in the Premier Division of the Cheshire Veterans Football League.

The over-35s Sunday league side, which has yet to officially announce the Jamaican’s registration, has been assembling former Premier League stars since 2025.

Also included in Wythenshawe’s squad for the season are former players such as Emile Heskey of Liverpool, Oumar Niasse of Everton, Antonio Valencia of Manchester United, Papiss Cisse of Newcastle, Stephen Ireland, Nedum Onuoha and Joleon Lescott of Manchester City and Danny Drinkwater of Chelsea.

Former Manchester City star Stephen Ireland also told Ladbrokes that, “Every week without fail there’s Danny Drinkwater, Joleon Lescott, Danny Simpson, George Boyd, Papiss Cisse, Oumar Niasse.

“There are loads… the registration list is silly. Then because only 11 can play, I have to tell these ex-pros that we don’t need you for this week and everyone’s like dying to play. Some of the Irish lads have registered as well. You got Paul McShane, Darron Gibson, Ciaran Westwood.

“Usain Bolt came out recently saying he wants to come and play with us. So we’re speaking to him at the moment. So yeah, it’s just amazing and I absolutely love it.”

Bolt scored two goals in a friendly for Australian A-League side Central Coast Mariners in 2018 but left after just eight weeks.
