The wife of Ekiti state governor, Bisi Fayemi, has called on residents of the state to expose perpetrators of gender based violence (GBV).

At a stakeholder’s forum held in Aisegba, Ekiti on Tuesday, Mrs Fayemi specifically asked residents of Gbonyin Local Government Area of the state to expose offenders.

She said that exposing the perpetrators would enhance the enforcement of all the existing laws on anti-gender based violence on anyone found culpable.

Mrs Fayemi expressed disappointment that 98 per cent of the GBV victims were women, adding that concerted effort was needed to stop the trend.

“We have put in place a rehabilitation centre for the victims in Ado Ekiti, there is also a clinic meant for the affected people at the state teaching hospital.

“So, do not hesitate to call public numbers made available when such cases rear its ugly head in our various communities,” she said.

In his speech, the chairman of Gbonyin LGA, Ayodele Fadumiye thanked Mrs Fayemi for sustaining the fight against gender violence through her visits to relevant authorities.

Mr Fadumiye said the council’s collaboration with the state Ministry of Justice was yielding positive results going by the number of people that have been prosecuted.

Teju Okuyiga, member of the state House of Assembly, stressed the need for women to report cases of sexual violence to the appropriate quarters.

While Ms Okuyiga pledged that the existing laws would come down hard on whoever was found guilty no matter how highly placed, the commissioner for women affairs, Marian Ogundana, said it was everyone’s duty to join the government to check the menace.
