Vigilante killed, suspected bandits nabbed in Bauchi gunfight: Police

The 27-year-old vigilante, who hailed from Mai-Ari village of Maimadi ward, sustained gunshot wounds when security men engaged in a gunfight with the bandits.

Hambali Sa’adu, a vigilante, has killed during a gunfight with bandits at Yankari Game Reserve in Bauchi. Police announced the arrest of four suspects following the attack.

The 27-year-old vigilante, who hailed from Mai-Ari village of Maimadi ward, sustained gunshot wounds when security men engaged in a gunfight with the bandits.

The command’s spokesman, Nafiu Abubakar, said in a statement on Tuesday that the vigilante was ambushed at Yankari Game Reserve on Sunday.

“According to reports received, at about 1330hrs, a joint patrol team comprising policemen attached to Mai-Ari Outpost and members of the local vigilante group were conducting routine patrol along the Bakin Layi axis of Yankari Game Reserve when they came under sudden attack by armed bandits who had laid an ambush.

“Despite efforts to save him, he was confirmed dead by a doctor. His remains have since been evacuated and buried in accordance with Islamic rites,” said the police statement.
