Voting commences early in Anambra polling units

Electorates were seen checking their names on the voters’ list, while some accredited voters had already begun voting.

Voting commenced early on Saturday in some parts of Anambra State.

At Polling Units (PUs) 001, 002 and 003 at Nwikpa Primary School, PU 009 at Nkwo Market and PU 013 at Amaokwu Hall, all in Umunze Ward I, Orumba South Local Government Area, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission arrived with election materials at about 8:10 a.m.

Electorates were seen checking their names on the voters’ list, while some accredited voters had already begun voting.

In Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area, electoral materials were being arranged by officials and were ready for the voting process as of 8:15 a.m.

At PU 005, Amanudo, PU 014 Obi-Nkwo Square, PU 003 Agba Village Hall and PU 004 Umueze Nwafor Primary School, INEC officials first enlightened voters on the proper voting procedures.

They also told them how to avoid mistakes before pasting the voter registers on the walls for easy identification.

As of the time of filing this report, voters were seen joining queues and casting their votes.

Similarly, at PUs 003 and 004 at Obiuno Youth Centre and PU 005 at Amakpu Square, all in Igbo-Ukwu, INEC officials and materials arrived at about 8:30 a.m. and accreditation of voters had commenced.

Voting and accreditation commenced at Eze Chima Primary school along Awka Road, Onitsha.

At All Saints Primary school, Onitsha, voting had yet to commence as of 8.30 a.m.

NAN reports that visible presence of security personnel were seen at the polling stations visited.
