The U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Mike Waltz, has described the killings of Christians in Nigeria as “genocide wearing the mask of chaos”.

Mr Waltz said this during a Tuesday conference at the UN organised by the White House to address the ‘genocide’ of Christians in Nigeria, a talking point that is being championed by President Donald Trump and other notable American politicians.

During his speech, the former National Security Adviser to Mr Trump, noted that there was concrete evidence showing Christians are being disproportionately targeted by terrorists in Nigeria.

“There is a body of evidence, and you are going to hear that from our experts today that paints a very grim picture of disproportionate suffering among Christians, where, again, families are torn apart, clergy is repeatedly assassinated, and entire congregations, church congregations,” Mr Waltz said.

He added, “Folks, we have an entire faith that is being erased. One bullet at a time, one torched Bible at a time.”

Popular American rapper Nicki Minaj, who also spoke at the conference following an official invitation from the Trump administration, reinforced Mr Waltz’s assertions while calling for further action to address the situation.

“Christians are being targeted, driven from their homes, and killed. Churches have been burned, families have been torn apart, and entire communities live in fear constantly simply because of how they pray,” the ‘Pink Friday’ rapper said.
