The Nigerian Correctional Service has said popular crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, otherwise called Bobrisky, was not placed in a male prison cell due to his distinctly female physical features.

This disclosure was made by the Deputy Controller of Corrections at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kirikiri, Lagos State, Michael Anugwa, during a House of Representatives hearing concerning the N15 million bribe case involving the controversial crossdresser.

Mr Anugwa explained that Bobrisky’s admission into the prison system presented unique challenges.

“During the admission, we discovered Idris has peculiar features that did not allow us to put him in the general cell,” he stated, referencing Bobrisky’s feminine attributes, and saying “Idris had female features like breast.”

To back this claim, Mr Anugwa presented a medical examination conducted by a practitioner, confirming Bobrisky’s female-like features.

He also said that in accordance with both Nigerian laws and international human rights standards set by the United Nations, the decision was made to transfer Bobrisky to protective custody.

He added that the crossdresser was assigned to B Ward, Room Two of the facility, where he stayed alone to avoid any issues that could arise from placing him with the general male population.

Mr Anugwa stated that Bobrisky refused to eat the regular prison food and instead requested self-feeding, a right allowed by the law.

“He nominated two people, Abiola Okuneye and Moji Okuneye, to bring him food,” the official added.
