The Cross River command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Tuesday clarified that the cautioning of errant drivers is aimed at ensuring safety, not sanction.

Innocent Etuk, sector commander of the Cross River Command, stated this in an interview with journalists during the 2025 Customer Service Week event.

The event, which commenced on October 6 and will conclude on October 10, was designed to recognise and reward frontline staff of the organisation for consistently ensuring customer satisfaction throughout the year.

The theme of the 2025 celebration is “Mission possible.”

Mr Etuk, who said the corps also used the period to celebrate its customers, advised them against recklessness on the roads.

He said, “As an International Standard Organisation (ISO)-certified institution, our mandate is to create a safe motoring environment and reduce crashes.

“In line with the five pillars of FRSC—care, compassion, courtesy, courage, and correction—our awareness campaigns aim at changing mindsets and building capacity for safer driving,” he said.

Mr Etuk added that any life lost in a crash was painful to the corps, saying that was the reason, aside from celebrating their customers, the corps strived to encourage drivers to cooperate and obey traffic rules.

On his part, Victor Eku, a transporter, commended the FRSC for always guiding and educating drivers on road safety.

He appealed for more understanding from officials to enhance the existing relationship.

Another driver, Simon Ozoagu with the Transport Company of Anambra (TRACAS), noted that the corps had some good officers and urged them to have patience with drivers as times were hard.

He called on road users to comply with the directives of the FRSC and put their vehicles and particulars in order to prevent altercation with the corps.

The command carried out a sensitisation rally around the Calabar metropolis and a medical outreach for staff and customers to celebrate the Week.
