A 30-year-old Welder, Alayande Sefiu, was on Friday sentenced to 24 months in prison by an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court in Isabo for stealing iron doors and windows.

Sefiu whose address was not provided was convicted on one count charge of stealing, and sentenced without an option of a fine.

The Magistrate, Olajumoke Somefun, said the evidence presented in court had proven beyond reasonable doubt that the convict was guilty of the offence.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Olakunle Shonibare, told the court the defendant committed the offence sometime in August 2021 at about 10:00 p.m. in Soyoye, Abeokuta.

Mr Shonibare stated that the convict, who is a welder, stole iron doors and a burglary window from his fellow welders.

He said the convict entered the workshop of one Haruna Akanni and stole an iron door worth N70,000 and four iron burglary windows valued at N80,000 belonging to Ismail Akanni.

He said that Sefiu also stole a small iron door valued at N30,000, property of one Shobayo Kabiru.

The prosecutor said the convict collected money from his customers to help them construct iron doors and windows but failed to deliver the jobs given to him.

He said the convict converted the money to his personal use and when his customers started disturbing him, went to his fellow welder’s workshop and stole iron doors and window burglary to deliver to them.

The prosecutor, however, noted that the offence contravened Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun 2006.
