We’re committed to meeting #EndSARS demands: Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday vowed to meet the five demands of #EndSARS protesters in his New Year message.
In October 2020, young citizens thronged the streets across the country demanding an end to police brutality for two weeks, disrupting social economic activities.
In addition to call for the disbandment of Special anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigerian police, notorious for reckless abuse and harassment of citizens, the #EndSARS historic protest demands includes: the release of #EndSARS protesters, justice and compensation for victims and families of victims of police brutality, increase in police salary and welfare, setting up of investigative panel to probe into police brutality in the country, psychological evaluation and retraining of SARS officers.
Mr. Buhari, who described 2020 as a tough year, said his government has heard the demands of the #EndSARS protesters and is ready to meet their demands.
“2020 indeed came with a lot of challenges ranging from security and economic issues across the regions to understandable protests that were mainly led by our youths and served notice to the demand for police reforms and accountability,” Mr. Buhari said. “This government heard, this government listened and this government is committed to fulfilling the five demands of our youths, fully understanding that we all wish well for Nigeria.”
Silent on how Nigerian soldiers opened live rounds on protesters at Lekki Toll Gate on October 20, 2020, Mr. Buhari said his government is committed to securing the future of Nigerian youth.
Peoples Gazette exclusively reported how Mr. Buhari’s government compiled a punitive no-fly list of key actors of the #EndSARS protest and how their bank accounts were illegally blocked.
