We’re keeping Okorocha for his own good: Police

The Imo state police command has said that it arrested former governor Rochas Okorocha for his personal safety.
“We took away Senator Rochas Okorocha out of the premises for two reasons; one we had to remove him for his personal safety because the place was tense and we didn’t want anything to happen to him…” Orlando Ikeokwu the spokesperson for Imo state police command told Channels TV.
Mr. Okorocha was on Sunday arrested after he and his supporters broke into the Royal Spring Palm Apartment, Owerri, sealed by the Imo government on February 19.
The estate is believed to be owned by Mr. Okorocha’s wife, Nneoma.
The Imo senator who has been at loggerheads with his successor, Hope Uzodinma, despite being of the same political party, has been severally accused of diverting the state’s funds to personal use.
Their disagreement became profound after Mr. Okorocha’s anointed candidate for the governorship seat, Uche Nwosu, lost his governorship election bid to Mr. Uzodinma.
Mr. Ikeokwu said that the former governor was invited to the state’s command headquarters for attempting to unseal Royal Spring Palm Apartment, shutdown by the state government.
He added that the former governor if found culpable will be charged to court.
“If investigation proves that he (Okorocha) has committed an offence, he will be charged to court,” Mr. Ikeokwu said.
