The leadership of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) says it is making efforts to rid motor parks of touts.

“We have always encouraged members to always liaise with the various law enforcement agents for the maintenance of law and order. In view of this, high-level security surveillance is observed in respective parks across the country to rid the parks of touts and miscreants to ensure the safety of members as well as passengers,” said Muhammed Bishara, the deputy national president (administration) of RTREAN, in an interview.

He called on the public to always cooperate with the union, especially in providing useful information that would make their operations easy, stressing the economic value of the association.

“Our members are in every sector of the economy. No sector of the economy will survive without transportation,” he said.

Mr Bishara, who described the transport sector as a mover of the economy, said RTEAN was doing its best to ensure that its members are sensitised on how to contribute more to the economic growth and development of the nation.

He, however, noted that insecurity had adversely affected the operations of union members, especially in the northern part of the country.

“If the roads are not safe, it will definitely affect the economy,” Mr Bishara explained. “We are already collaborating with the security agencies and other relevant stakeholders towards ensuring that the roads are safe for both the commuters and our members.”
