Wike-backed PDP leaders attend INEC stakeholders’ meeting

The Nyesom Wike-led National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party is holding a regular quarterly meeting of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
At the ongoing meeting are the national chairman of the committee, Abdulrahman Mohammed and the secretary, Samuel Anyanwu.
Though no official comment from INEC on the development, it is coming a few days after a judgment of the Federal High Court, Ibadan Division, refusing to recognise the Tanimu Turaki-led leadership of the party.
While the Mohammed-led NWC had welcomed the judgment, the Turaki-led NWC rejected it and appealed, explaining that the party had earlier approached the Ibadan court for an order of mandamus to compel INEC to recognise the leadership produced by the Ibadan convention.
Mr Turaki, however, said that the court declined the prayers on the grounds that it would amount to sitting on an appeal from a court of coordinate jurisdiction.
INEC chair Joash Amupitan had met on December 19, 2025, with leaders of the two warring PDP factions, ahead of the February 21 Abuja council elections and the forthcoming Osun and Ekiti governorship elections.
Also at the meeting were Nenadi Usman, the Labour Party’s interim national chairman, and the national secretary, Darlington Nwokocha.
There were also the national chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, Yusuf Dantalle, and the national chairmen and national secretaries of other political parties.
INEC had on Wednesday held similar meetings with civil society organisations and media executives, ahead of the Abuja council elections scheduled for February 21.
The commission is also expected to hold the same quarterly consultative meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security on Friday.
A check on the INEC website showed that Umar Damagun is still listed as the national chairman and Anyanwu as the secretary of the PDP.
For the Labour Party, the INEC’s website already listed Ms Usman and Mr Nwokocha as the chair and secretary, respectively.
