Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has promised to provide clean water to Zuba community and critical infrastructure to other communities in Gwagwalada Area Council.

Mr Wike made the pledge when he visited stakeholders in Gwagwalada on Wednesday to thank them for supporting President Bola Tinubu’s candidates in the February 21 FCT area council polls.

He noted that although the chairman-elect, Kasim Mohammed, won the election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, he would support Mr Tinubu as a member of the rainbow coalition.

Mr Wike expressed disappointment that Zuba community “does not have clean water” and pledged to provide it for the people.

“You have talked about water. I feel so bad that you don’t have water in Zuba. What I will tell you is that, you should consider it done,” he said.

The minister also approved the upgrade of the Gbagyi traditional leader in Gwagwalada West to a third-class chief, as requested by Mr Mohammed.

Responding to other requests by the chairman-elect, Mr Wike advised him to sit with his people after his inauguration to identify critical projects that require immediate attention.

“To be frank, all the things you have mentioned cannot be solved at the same time. So, choose the one that you think is very important to the people,” he said.

He commended the people of the area for choosing Mr Mohammed as their chairman, describing him as a “very hard-working” man.

He urged the people to work with him, saying, “I will work with him to make sure that we provide infrastructure to Gwagwalada communities.”

The minister expressed joy with the turnout of the people to receive him, saying that “this indicates how happy you are.”

“When we came here during the campaign, we said – vote for us, and you have done it. So, it is our own duty now to pay you back”.

Earlier, Mr Mohammed noted that the election was over and that he and his people would no longer play party politics but key into Wike’s rainbow coalition for good governance devoid of party differences.

“I want to assure you, Mr Minister, that wherever you stand, that is where we will stand,” he said.

He, thereafter, appealed to Mr Wike to upgrade the Gbagyi traditional ruler’s stool in Gwagwalada West to a third-class chief.

He also requested the provision of clean water to Zuba community, as well as a bridge and other critical road projects in the area council.

Also, the Aguma (Chief) of Gwagwalada, Mohammed Magaji, thanked the minister for his continued support to Gwagwalada Area Council.

Mr Magaji also thanked Wike for upgrading traditional leaders in the FCT to 1st class and second-class chiefs respectively, and pledged continued support for Mr Tinubu’s administration.
