Wolves appoint ex-Real Madrid manager as head coach

Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed the appointment of former Real Madrid head coach Julen Lopetegui as the new manager, more than a month following the dismissal of former manager Bruno Lage.
“We are delighted to announce Julen Lopetegui will take charge as our new head coach on Monday 14th November,” the club said in a statement on Saturday afternoon.
The 56-year-old had initially turned down an approach last month but he reviewed his position after fresh round of talks to land the deal.
Lopetegui has managed several elite teams in Europe including the the Spain national teams, Rayo Vallecano, Porto, Real Madrid and Sevilla, where he won the 2020 UEFA Europa League.
He is expected to resume his duty as first team coach on November 14 as his work permit and other necessary documents are being processed.
Lopetegui’s first match in charge of the Wolves is expected to be a Boxing Day Premier League fixture away at Everton.
