Woman, 25, arraigned over alleged cyberbullying, threat to life

A 25-year-old woman, Ajoke Ganiu, on Tuesday appeared before an Ikorodu Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly engaging in cyberbullying.
The defendant, whose address was not provided, is standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, and threat to life, to which she pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, ASP Aminu Isaac, told the court that the defendant and others still at large committed the offences sometime in November at about 10.00 a.m., within Owutu area of Ikorodu.
According to Mr Isaac, the defendant allegedly conducted herself in a disorderly manner on social media to discredit the complainant, Oluwaseun Ajayi.
The prosecutor added that the defendant engaged in cyberbullying by threatening the complainant’s life, using vulgar language and falsely calling her a thief to damage her reputation.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 57, 168(d), and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Magistrate, B. A. Sonuga, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.
Sonuga adjourned the case until December 18 for mention.
