A 38-year-old woman, Toyin Akintoye, on Wednesday appeared before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court Ibadan, Oyo State, over an alleged N300,000 rice fraud.

Akintoye, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of obtaining goods under false pretences and stealing.

She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecutor, CPL David Adepoju, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on April 16 at Liberty Road, Ibadan.

Mr Adepoju alleged that the defendant collected five bags of rice worth N300,000 from the complainant, Mrs Oyindamola Amoo, that she would pay her later, but failed to do so.

He said all efforts made by the complainant to get back her money or the rice proved abortive.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened  Sections 390(9) and 419 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Kausarat Ayofe, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 and two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until July 6 for mention.(NAN)
