Woman, 42, arraigned over alleged assault

The police on Tuesday charged a 42-year-old woman, Adebayo Funke, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, over alleged assault.
The defendant whose address was not dsiclosed, is standing trial on a two-count charge of assault and causing unlawful damage.
She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Insprctor Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant and two others now at large, committed the offence on October 26, at about 8:00 a.m. at Ekute in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that following a misunderstanding, the defendant engaged in a fight with two women, Awodumila Tosin and Oluwarotimi Tosin.
Mr Oriyomi told the court that in the ensuing battle, the defendant tore the clothes of the second complainant (Oluwarotimi).
The cloth is valued at N15,000.
According to the prosecution, the offence contravenes the provisions of section 185 and 354(1) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor urged the court to grant an adjournment to enable him study the case file, and assemble his witnesses.
Meanwhile, defence counsel, Mr Olarewaju Oluwasola, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, on liberal terms, adding that she will not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N10,000 with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case untill November 25, for hearing.
