World Relays: Nigeria clinch two more Beijing qualification spots

Team Nigeria have secured two more tickets to the World Championships in Beijing, China, on the final day of the 2026 World Athletics Relays in Botswana.
Nigeria qualified for the Mixed 4×400m and the women’s 4×100m categories.
The Nigerian mixed 4×400m quartet—Samson Nathaniel, Taiwo Kudoro, Chidi Okezie and Patience Okon-George—delivered a top performance, running a season’s best of 3:12.88 to finish second and earn automatic qualification.
Nigeria secured another qualification when the quartet of Chigozie Rosemary, Obi Jennifer Chukwuka, Maria Thompson, and Miracle Ezechukwu clocked 42.94s to finish second in the women’s 4×100m category.
The ladies had missed out on automatic qualification on the first day of the relay after a botched baton exchange but came back better, finishing second only to France in the repechage heat.
The Nigerian team couldn’t secure qualification in the men’s 4×400m repechage, finishing third in 3:01.43.
The team has secured three of the possible six tickets for the World Relay Championship in Gaborone, Botswana.
