World Sight Day: Lagos cops undergo free screening, get eyeglasses

A non- governmental organisation, Health Advocacy Citizens Engagement (HACE), on Thursday provided free eye screening for no fewer than 200 police personnel in the Lagos Command Headquarters, Ikeja.
The Founder of the NGO, Dr Kennedy Eguagie, said that the free eye care outreach was part of events to mark World Sight Day.
Mr Eguagie said that the event was also an avenue to cement the police/citizens engagement, tagged: “Smile with the police initiative.”
He said, “We initiated the programme to promote police/citizens engagement; we want to create harmony, we want to build trust between the police and the citizens. We encourage cooperation with the police, while we also encourage professionalism from the police personnel, from where we can build a safer society. Today is World Sight Day. We use this opportunity to reach out to police and the public. We do free eye screening, provide free eye glasses, to promote good eye care for the police and the public.’’
Mr Eguagie said that the importance of good sight to police officers could not be overemphasised in view of their jobs.
