The Chairman of Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Dr Bayo Adefuye, has urged residents to participate in the e-registration exercise of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to validate their membership.

He said that the registration would also allow them prepare ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Mr Adefuye gave the advice while speaking at the council secretariat, assuring that measures had been put in place to make the e-registration process seamless for interested members.

He said that the exercise was aimed at strengthening inclusion and participation, adding that the government was committed to ensuring that residents feel involved.

“We want people to understand that the government cares about them and that the e-registration process is important for proper documentation and participation,” he said

The council chairman also cautioned residents against indiscriminate dumping of refuse on road medians and into drainage channels, warning that offenders risk a jail term or a fine of N50,000, or both.

Mr Adefuye noted that recurrent flooding and other environmental challenges during the rainy season were linked to the dumping of plastic and other waste materials into canals.

He said that his administration would intensify sensitisation and awareness campaigns, to promote behavioural change, adding that environmental sanitation required collective responsibility.

“Government can put structures in place, but without the cooperation of residents, environmental challenges will persist,” he said.

Speaking on the administration’s plans for the new year, Mr Adefuye said that the council’s N14 billion budget, tagged “Yaba Tuntun,’ was designed to drive development across key sectors.

He listed priority areas to include youth empowerment, energy solutions, mini transport systems, road infrastructure and improved primary healthcare services.

Reacting to the demolition exercise in parts of Makoko within the LCDA, the chairman said that the Lagos State Government had issued relocation notices to affected residents, explaining that structures built under high-tension power lines posed serious safety risks.

“Living under high-tension power lines is extremely dangerous and can lead to severe health challenges over time; That is why relocation is necessary,” he said.

He added that the council was working to cushion effects of the exercise, by providing food palliatives and financial support to displaced residents.

Mr Adefuye assured that the council would continue to engage relevant authorities to ensure that affected residents were properly documented and supported during the relocation process.
