‘Yahoo Boys’ protest EFCC raid, block highway, LG secretariat in Osun

Alleged internet fraudsters popularly called “Yahoo Boys” blocked marched on the streets of Ilesha, a major town in Osun State protesting incessant arrests and harassment by security agencies.

The demonstrators Tuesday morning stormed the Ilesha West Local Government Secretariat in their numbers blocking the Oke-Omiru end of the Oshogbo-Ilesha expressway and other parts of the town.

They set a bonfire at the entrance of the local government secretariat, causing traffic gridlock. Road users were forced to take alternative routes.

Residents who witnessed the protest recounted how the tension caused by the protesters crippled commercial activities in the area as traders locked up their shops to avoid looting.

A spokesman for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Osun, Daniel Adigun, confirmed the incident.

“From reports made available to us, EFCC raided some suspected internet fraudsters in the area last night and the protest, we are told, is organised by some of them.”

The Ibadan zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recently arrested two siblings and six others suspected to be internet fraudsters in the state, Peoples Gazette learnt.

The arrested suspects include Akinrinmade Adepoju  and Akinrinmade Adeniyi.

Others are Dennis Oluwamuyiwa, Oni Oluwaseyi, Adeyemo Adeyinka, Aborisade Abayomi, Goodluck Olatayo and Gbolahan Sodiq.
