Yamal ranks fourth, Cubarsí seventh among youngest World Cup winners
Barcelona stars Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsí have joined the list of the 20 youngest players to win the FIFA World Cup after helping Spain clinch their second-ever world title at the recently concluded tournament in North America.
In the updated ranking released by FIFA following the completion of the tournament, Yamal, who featured in all of Spain’s eight matches, leaped to fourth on the all-time list, winning the World Cup at age 19 years and six days.
Cubarsí, named the Best Young Player of the Tournament as he helped Spain keep a record seven clean sheets in the competition, moved to seventh on the list as he was 19 years and 178 days when he lifted the trophy.
Meanwhile, Pele remains the youngest player to achieve the feat after winning the first of his three World Cups at 17 years and 249 days followed closely by fellow compatriot Ronaldo, who won it when he was 17 years and 298 days old.
Italy’s Giuseppe Bergomi (18 years and 174 days), Brazil’s Coutinho (19 years and six days), who won the World Cup at the same age as Yamal, completed the top five.
