On Thursday, the Yobe government introduced a new measurement scale (mudu) for traders across the 17 LGAs.

Governor Mai Mala Buni announced this while presenting the new mudu to the leadership of traders’ associations and Shariah committees across the state in Damaturu.

Mr Buni noted that the scale would prevent traders from short-changing consumers.

“The introduction of the new weighing scales will promote honesty and adherence to Sharia standards in the market, particularly during these challenging times,” the governor said.

Yusuf Umar, the Commissioner for Religious Affairs and Ethical Orientation, said the ministry procured the measurement scales to ensure fair transactions between buyers and sellers.

“The introduction of the new weighing scales is critical to ending sharp practices in our markets,” Mr Umar said.

He directed local government Shariah committees to ensure that the new scales were used at markets across the state.

The Emir of Damaturu, Shehu Hashimi El-Kenemi, commended the Yobe government for the initiative, which, he said, would promote transparency and integrity in business transactions.
